At GOPO® Joint Health, we believe caring for others should never mean neglecting yourself.
Our latest survey, conducted on 501 unpaid caregivers in the UK, reveals the physical and emotional toll of caregiving
and why prioritising your own well-being is essential to caring for others effectively.
Across the UK, an estimated 5.8 million unpaid caregivers dedicate their time and energy to supporting loved ones.1 Yet over half say their physical (52%) or mental health (53%) has been impacted as a result.2
We’re passionate about empowering carers to look after their well-being. These simple steps can make a real difference:
1. Stay connected
Feeling isolated is common for carers, so maintaining social connections is key. 39% of carers say socialising with friends or fellow carers can support their well-being. Even short chats, online groups or local support networks can help you feel less alone.
2. Schedule self-care
Even small moments of self-care can count. Take a 5-10-minute walk, enjoy a bath, listen to music or simply pause for a cup of tea. Prioritising rest and sleep can help to recharge your energy and your resilience.
3. Nurture your mental health
Mindfulness, meditation or journaling can help support your well-being. It’s important to remember that taking time for yourself doesn’t mean you’re neglecting your responsibilities.
4. Prioritise your physical health
Caregiving often involves physical tasks making it important to maintain joint health in all life stages. Gentle, regular movement keeps you strong and flexible. Alongside a healthy diet and balanced lifestyle, GOPO® Joint Health, made from rose-hip (Rosa canina), helps maintain healthy, flexible joints and contributes to overall joint well-being.*
5. Seek support when needed
You don’t have to do everything alone. 72% of carers wish there were more resources for their own health so reach out to family, friends or professional services for support. For further information and resources, visit: www.carersuk.org
At GOPO® Joint Health, we’re here to support caregivers every step of the way. Through our ongoing research and advocacy for well-being, we want every caregiver to live well – both for themselves and for those they love.
